The Ball : Pehua (UT3)


The Ball : Pehua (Pehua : the beginning) is a singleplay FPS puzzle game involving the player and a big metal ball. The player must push the ball around, currently using a modified impact hammer, to get around puzzles and obstacles. The game takes place in an Aztec temple, inside a gigantic cavern in the top of an volcano. It is basically Portal meets Tomb Raider in terms of feeling, atmosphere, action/puzzle ratio and all that.

Installation

Extract the zip into the My Games folder and you should be set!

If you want to do it manually, move all files inside the zip into C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\TheBall except UTTheBall.ini which should go into UTGame\Config.
If the directory does not exist, create it manually.

Then, run the game, and in the Instant Action menu select The Ball as the gametype of choice. DO NOT USE ANY MUTATORS. PREFFERABLY SET THE GAMETYPE TO 0.

The game will never end, regardless of what time you set it to, but the announcer constantly spamming time announcements ruins the atmosphere...

The number of bots you set it to will not impact the game.

How To Play and notes regarding gameplay

Primary fire pushes the ball away, secondary fire attracts the ball. The ultimate goal of every room is to reach the button that will open the door to the next room.

You start without the ball, this is normal. It is part of the gameplay.

This is first version is relatively small and only offers one level. The puzzles are quite easy and focus mostly on introducing all the gameplay mechanics. This first version also has no enemies and thus no action orientated gameplay. This will be introduced in part 2 if all goes right.

Background Story and Theme

The mod takes place in a huge Aztec temple in a gigantic cave in the top of a volcano. This first level is located in a smaller entrance temple, which is basically the gate to the gigantic cave and the real temple. Thus, in this first level you are not playing in the real temple itself yet, but merely in a smaller building that forms the connection from the outside world into the cavern. In part two, the idea is to have the player really enter the gigantic cavern and the real temple located in that cavern.

-Menu allows you to set a timelimit and bots.

-You can occasionally get stuck inside the ball. Use the "use" key (the one you enter a vehicle with) to toggle off collision of the ball. You can only do this when the ball is close enough, and it will only last for two seconds.
